New Zealand Sports and Recreation Minister Grant Robertson has announced that $ 5.7 million will be allocated to create better experiences for people with disabilities in sport and recreation.
The investment, through Sport NZ’s Disability Plan, will see $ 2.1 million paid to 15 Parafeds / D-Sport and seven National Disability Sport Organizations (NDSOs) over the next three years and 3 , $ 6 million for two new questionable disability funds.
Commenting on this support, Minister Robertson said “more needs to be done to improve the range and quality of physical activity available to people with disabilities.
“This investment will significantly increase Sport NZ’s investment in the sector to ensure tamariki (children) and rangatahi (youth) with disabilities can participate in quality and fair play, active recreation and sport of their choice.”
The two new contestable funds for people with disabilities will help national and regional organizations implement initiatives and programs that increase opportunities for participants with disabilities.
The funds will support the expansion of proven programs, as well as the development of new innovative programs. The two new funds will complement the investment made through Tū Manawa, which offers children and youth with disabilities the opportunity to be active.
To date, just over $ 2 million of Tū Manawa’s funds have been approved by the Regional Sports Trusts for Youth with Disabilities.
