New Zealand Government Donates NZD 30,000 Track Detection Device to Boost Fiji Border Security

In an effort to improve protection at the Fiji border, the New Zealand government donated a new track detection device worth NZD 30,000 as well as additional consumable kits worth NZD 30,000. of approximately NZD 3,000.

Fiji Tax and Customs Services Council Chairman Mahmood Khan said the aid is a welcome boost to Fiji’s border security system as Fiji prepares to reopen its international borders.

He says the FRCS will further strengthen its capacity to manage the potential risks of importing illicit goods into the country.

Khan adds that the trace detection device will help FRCS perform risk assessment of cargo and passengers more effectively and allow customs officers to mitigate and identify illicit material on high-risk cargo and passengers to intervention at entry and exit points.

Khan says it will help deter drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and ensure legitimate trade facilitation.

Fiji Airways chief executive and CEO Andre Viljoen said the support was timely given the reopening of Fiji’s borders for tourism on December 1 and the expected influx of people traveling to and from the country. from Fiji.
